Turn a text field into a date field so template users pick the date from a calendar. You can also control exactly how the date is written.

Step by step

  1. Create a text question.

  2. Next to the text field, click the ⋯ (three dots) and choose Date.

Choosing "Date" from the three-dots menu next to a text field

  3. The three dots turn into an ! - this marks any field that deviates from the default. During document generation the field shows a calendar for picking the date.

To turn it back into a plain text field, click the ! and then the highlighted Date.

Change how the date looks

By default the date follows the template’s language (change it under the template Options).

To set a custom format, place your cursor where the date should appear (right side of the app) and enter:

::ph[format(...)]

Press Enter. A placeholder [...] appears, which you link to the date field from the questionnaire. Put the format tokens inside the brackets.

The most common tokens:

PartTokenExample
DayD / DD5 / 05
MonthM / MM / MMMM3 / 03 / March
YearYY / YYYY25 / 2025

So DD.MM.YYYY → 05.03.2025, and D. MMMM YYYY → 5. March 2025. Separate the parts with any usual symbol (. , ; - & /).

For the full list of tokens, see the Moment.js format reference.

Good to know

  • The ! icon means “not the default.” It appears whenever a field deviates from the standard - for example a date field instead of a plain text field.
