How ECOVIS Keller Rechtsanwälte creates corporate law documents in 15 minutes instead of a full day

ECOVIS Keller Rechtsanwälte PartG mbB is a law firm in Rostock and part of the Ecovis group. Lawyer and partner Axel Keller has used Lawlift for several years to create documents, particularly in corporate law, and has fundamentally reshaped a process that used to take a full working day.

The starting point

Corporate law documents such as GmbH (German limited liability company) formation papers are among the most demanding work in a law firm. Every document requires the careful selection of the right clauses, attention to each client’s individual situation and consistent legal language. For Axel Keller, that meant: one document, about a day’s work.

On top of that came the challenge of bringing colleagues — some of them across several offices — onto a shared standard. Anyone who maintains templates manually has no guarantee that the same reviewed version is used everywhere. In a network with offices in different cities, that was a real problem.

The new approach

In Lawlift, Axel Keller built deterministic templates, including one he singles out as especially well done: the GmbH formation multi-document. It consists of text, a set of questions and a rule set that automatically selects the right building block. Whoever opens the template answers the questions about the client and the desired company; the system assembles the finished document from the answers.

Whether a simple one-person GmbH, a non-profit company or the detailed articles of association of a family GmbH — every case can be covered by a single template. The required shareholder resolution is created along with it, of course differentiated according to whether it is a new formation or a revision of an existing agreement. And, on request, a matching managing-director employment contract is created too, since the relevant data is processed anyway for appointing the first managing director(s).

The decisive point: because only reviewed and approved clauses are built in, even users without a specific corporate law background can create the documents. Legal quality doesn’t depend on the individual’s experience but is secured in the rule set. The result is reproducible, every time.

That reliability was also the basis for using the template across offices. Whether Berlin, Munich, Düsseldorf or Rostock: every location works from the same reviewed template on a shared platform.

The result

The GmbH template is emblematic of what Axel Keller has achieved with Lawlift. Documents that used to take him up to a day are now finished in 15 minutes. That’s not an incremental improvement — it’s a different measure of what’s possible in a working day.
