How Dr. Neumann, Schmeer und Partner made the Lawlift Word add-in the foundation of daily work

Dr. Jana Keller

"I love the Lawlift Word add-in and wouldn't want to work without it anymore."

Dr. Jana Keller — NS+P Dr. Neumann, Schmeer und Partner mbB

As an interdisciplinary firm — lawyers, tax advisors, auditors and business consultants working side by side — NS+P brings several perspectives to bear, and that shapes its requirements for digital tools: they have to be professionally robust, intuitive day to day, and able to fit into existing workflows.

For lawyer Dr. Jana Keller, the Lawlift Word add-in has become a fixed part of daily work. The combination of document automation, AI-assisted adaptation and built-in speech recognition helps exactly where legal practice ties up the most time: creating, adapting and quality-checking recurring documents.

Key facts

  • Template types in use: shareholders’ agreements (including articles of association), employment contracts, loan agreements
  • Speech recognition replaces the previous internal dictation software in contract drafting
  • New templates ready for use in minutes, with no rule set to plan or maintain

The starting point

In corporate and employment law, NS+P regularly produces documents that have recurring structures on the one hand, but must be carefully individualized on the other: shareholders’ agreements and articles of association, employment contracts, loan agreements and other matter-specific contract documents. Until now, that often meant: reviewing existing precedents, selecting the right text modules, comparing previous versions, adjusting wording, and then checking everything again professionally.

The challenge therefore lay not only in producing text. What mattered more was finding a digital process that fits the way lawyers work: fast enough for everyday use, flexible enough for individual cases, and at the same time controllable enough that professional responsibility always stays with the advisor.

There was also a practical aspect: the dictation software used internally so far was not always fast and precise enough in day-to-day practice. Corrections and rework offset the time it was meant to save.

The new approach

NS+P deliberately chose a pragmatic entry point: starting with guardrail templates for selected document types. Here, the template text and a structured questionnaire are stored; the AI then assists with the content adaptation. Simple requirements can be added as rules, without having to build a complex system of branches and clauses from the outset. A new template is operational within minutes, without planning branches or maintaining clause conditions. Because the AI does the adaptation work, the system stays up to date even when requirements change.

The reservations about AI methods are well known at the firm and taken very seriously — in particular the fact that AI-assisted templates do not deliver the guaranteed uniform output of a purely rule-based system. The results are therefore, as a matter of course, reviewed professionally by Dr. Jana Keller and her colleagues before a document makes its way to the client. For a team of lawyers, this review is part of the workflow anyway, which is exactly why guardrail templates are the right fit here.

The decisive factor for acceptance is the integration into Microsoft Word. For legal practice, Word is not just a writing program but the central place where contracts are created, revised and finalized. The Lawlift Word add-in brings automation right there: the questionnaire runs in the add-in, the document takes shape directly in the familiar environment, and changes can be reviewed and refined in the interface everyone already knows.

The result

Shareholders’ agreements, articles of association, employment contracts and loan agreements are now created faster and with less manual effort. The firm is also steadily expanding document automation and establishing it as a fixed part of how the practice is organized.

The effect shows most clearly in the daily work of Dr. Jana Keller, who is responsible for Lawlift at the firm.

The built-in speech recognition stands out especially at NS+P. In everyday use it is increasingly replacing the previous dictation software, and Dr. Jana Keller finds it far more practical — “a dream,” in her words. For a firm where precise wording and efficient processing go hand in hand, that is more than a convenience feature.
